What it Means to be WYRD (Weird)

Dear fearful, baby Jumakae,

𝐘𝐨𝐮. 𝐚𝐫𝐞. 𝗪𝐞𝐢𝐫𝐝. I know being called that by others constantly hurt your feelings, but here’s a cool secret they don’t know: the word “weird” derives from an old English word “WYRD”, which means something along the lines of “fate” or “destiny”. There are stories written about this, but just know that it is your courage to put yourself out there that will influence the trajectory of yours and others’ lives.

Being called “weird” may be an insult from the mouths it is spoke from, but it’s secretly a spell of good fortune that’s being casted onto you and who you’re meant to become (as long as you don’t allow their words or opinions of you to keep you triggered and in hiding). ⁣

As you continue to share your process of reclamation and using your voice despite the fear of being choked again by that playground bully or being rejected by the popular girls for not being feminine enough, you’ll make way for the other weirdos who are still awakening to their gifts in your elder years. ✨ ⁣

These voices will still echo in your mind. You’ll even mistake them as your own! “You’re so weird. Freak. Who do you think you are? You can’t do that. Nobody cares what it is you have to say.” It’s all just a part of the path to test how it is you’ll respond to others who have yet to embrace their own weirdo within (and perhaps are in need of massive healing of their own inner child cuz someone told them otherwise!). 😊 ⁣

With this understanding, it is not your responsibility to react or save them; only to embody what’s possible. So stay weird; it’s a superpower. 💕 ⁣

- This is how I chose to confront fear (as my inner child protecting older me from getting hurt), and how I respond to her today as my ancestral self in the making. 🙏🏾

How do you choose to respond to your inner child?
